Thyssen Museo Malaga: Imogen Cunningham. Esencias

From 24 October 2024 to 19 January 2025, the Thyssen Museo in Malaga is presenting an impressive exhibition by the renowned photographer Imogen Cunningham. Entitled "Esencias", the exhibition highlights the essential elements of Cunningham's work, which is strongly characterised by her passion for nature, portraiture and experimental photography.

Cunningham, considered one of the pioneers of modern photography, has developed a unique visual language throughout her career. This exhibition will showcase a diverse selection of her photographs that provide a deep insight into her artistic vision and technical skills.

This exhibition will focus on two of the main themes in the production of the multifaceted American photographer Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976), a pioneer of the female gaze on the naked body - of both women and men, outside all the moral conventions of her time - a passionate botanist, an extraordinary portraitist and a chronicler of American street life. Some thirty images from the José Luis Soler Vila Collection, taken in the 1920s and 1930s, one of her most brilliant periods, will be shown, in which the organic forms, common to bodies and plants, will offer a select and exquisite approach to her unique, experimental, unprejudiced, elegant, minimalist and evocative work.

Vom 24. Oktober 2024 bis zum 19. Januar 2025 präsentiert das Thyssen Museo in Málaga eine beeindruckende Ausstellung der renommierten Fotografin Imogen Cunningham. Unter dem Titel „Esencias“ werden die essenziellen Elemente von Cunninghams Werk beleuchtet, das stark von ihrer Leidenschaft für die Natur, das Porträt und die experimentelle Fotografie geprägt ist.

Esta exposición se centrará en dos de las principales temáticas en la producción de la polifa­cética fotógrafa estadounidense Imogen Cunningham (1883-1976), pionera de la mirada fe­menina sobre el cuerpo desnudo –tanto de mujeres como de hombres, fuera de toda convención moral de su tiempo–, apasionada de la botánica, extraordinaria retratista, y cro­nista de la vida callejera americana. Se mostrará, así, una treintena de imágenes, procedentes de la Colección José Luis Soler Vila y tomadas en las décadas de 1920 y 1930, uno de sus períodos más brillantes, en las que las formas orgánicas, comunes a cuerpos y plantas, ofrecerán una aproximación selecta y exquisita a su obra única, experimental, desprejuiciada, elegante, mini­malista y evocadora.
